PART VII HOW TO GET RID OF FEAR

1. Seek. Perhaps the most basic method for getting rid of fear is written in Psalm 34:4: “I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears,” Note the inclusive stress: all.
2. Trust. The opposite of fear is trust, so practice trust. Put your trust in God and in the fact that most of the things that you fear will never come to pass.
3. Rely. Rely on the law of averages that you will have safety. Rely on the mechanism you must use, such as buses, airplanes or ships. Believe that you can trust efficiency, and rely on God.
4. Study. Study to discover the origin of your fears. There are reasons for your fear. And, since fear is highly conditioned emotionally, you may find that many of these reasons are irrational.
5. Add. Frequently try the technique of adding up all the times in your life when you know you have been taken care of, watched over, and protected. Follow this by the affirmation that is always will be that way.
6. Do. Emerson’s advice is sound: “Do the thing you fear, and the death of fear is certain.” If you are afraid to do something, yet doing that something makes sense, do it. As you act, your fear will subside.
7. Courage. Mentally and spiritually emphasize courage. This will start the process of canceling out fear thoughts. Think courageously, act courageously, and fear will yield to courage.
8. See. Form an image of yourself as now being free of all fear. What we deeply picture tends, finally, to be actualized as fact.
9. Help. Do a good turn for someone else who is fearful by helping that individual to overcome his own fears. In helping another to lose a fear, the hold of your own fear will be lessened.
10. Faith. The second most powerful force in the world is fear. But the most powerful force of all is faith. Faith is stronger than fear. So, to get rid of fear, build up your faith.
